The goal of Adams and Nordstrom was to protect and preserve the scenic character of the New London rural landscape. The Barraspur land is adjacent to the Village District of Eastman land which is the water supply for the Eastman community. Ausbon Sargent partnered with the Eastman Charitable Foundation, as well as, the Village District of Eastman to help the landowner cover the cost of conserving this important property.Read more

Clare and Dean Bensley donated a conservation easement of 63 acres on Mountain Road in Newbury. The Bensley easement lies between Sunapee Ridge and Bald Sunapee Mountain. The easement portion, which is primarily within Newbury’s borders, is part of a 99-acre tract south of Mountain Road in Newbury and Bradford. The easement land contains a forest comprised of a hardwood stand, mixed wood, pine and a sugar bush. The trails are fully open to the public for walking, hiking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding and snowshoeing. Hunting is also allowed on the property.Read more

Between the Mountains Forest Preserve

On February 11, 2022, The Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust finalized a land conservation project that was almost two years in the making. The 88.40-acre “Between the Mountains Preserve” is on Mountain Road in the town of Newbury. The Bradford Bog Headwaters (BBH) property is an ecologically valuable 71.66-acre parcel in Bradford that is within the “Quabbin to Mount Cardigan” (Q2C) conservation focus area of national importance. In their Natural Resources Conservation Service Brochure, the US Department of Agriculture identifies this section of land as “one of the largest ecologically significant forest blocks in New England, with connectivity encompassing approximately two million acres along a 100 mile swath.” Read more

Sisters Mary Anne and Betty Broshek were the first Andover property owners to protect their family land through Ausbon Sargent. Their 55 acres along the north side of Shaw Hill Road have been in the Broshek family since 1946. The Broshek easement stipulates that the 55 acres remain open to public access for passive uses such as walking, cross-country skiing and nature study. The property is a mixture of open fields and forest; the diverse range of vegetative conditions contribute to attracting numerous wildlife populations, such as bear, deer, moose, and birds.Read more
