Ring Brook/Audubon Society of NH

A generous donor granted a conservation easement to Ausbon Sargent on seven undeveloped tracts of land off Chalk Pond Road in Newbury. The Society for the Protection of NH Forests (The Forest Society) holds an executory interest in the easement.

The property consists of 77.84 acres of undeveloped land and is located on the north and south sides of Chalk Pond Road and east and west sides of Cheney Road in Newbury. The property is almost entirely forest except a few small wetland areas along the brook. Ring Brook runs through the property and eventually flows into Lake Todd.Read more

Roby Preserve

Many years ago, Barbara Roby's parents placed a conservation easement with the Forest Society on a large parcel of land in East Andover.  It had long been Barbara and David Roby's intention to protect their 41.98-acre property that lies across Route 11 from her parent's acreage.  The Roby's chose to gift this land to Ausbon Sargent in 2017.Read more

The property is 141.31 acres and is bisected by Spear Hear Road in Danbry, and includes the homestead of the farm. The homestead includes a 200+ year old home and meadows. Rowell MacWilliams Woodlot

In 2019, Sandra Blackington and Cora Collins Kangas generously donated an easement on their 265-acre Rowell MacWilliams Woodlot.  The property is located on the well-traveled Perkins Pond Road in Sunapee; however, since there is very little road frontage with the property, it remains wild and protected.

Russell Pond/Town of Sutton

This lovely 17-acre pond is situated next a major public road providing a gateway view and recreation to Sutton from the south. The protected property on the west and north sides is owned by the Town of Sutton and the easement is now held by Ausbon Sargent. Though not a large property (only 8.48 acres in size) it includes 1,830 feet of frontage on Russell Pond and 2,068 feet of frontage on N.H. Route 114. The original owners of this property were Rachel and Murray Sargent, who donated an easement to the Town of New London in 1989. The field property (A) is 21 acres of active farmland adjacent to Pleasant Lake. This portion of the property is now owned by John Clough and farmed by Spring Ledge Farm. Through the years, the fields have been used for various vegetable and fruit crops. Currently, the only crop is strawberries (and buckwheat to enrich the soil in the off-season), managed by Spring Ledge Farm.Read more

Sawyer Brook Headwaters Property

The Sawyer Brook Headwaters Property is a large, 384.5-acre property that abuts the Blue Mountain Forest Association’s Corbin Park and is in close proximity to other conserved lands that together, provide an important corridor for travel by wildlife. There are 35 acres of wetland on the property, which includes a beaver pond and beaver activity. This land is used extensively by the public for bird and wildlife watching, hiking, mountain biking, running, snowshoeing, horseback riding, etc. because of its impressive natural features and accessibility.Read more

Shadow Hill Woodlot/Hannah and Sheets

In 2008, Tim and Lorraine Davis donated a 50-acre conservation easement in Sutton and named it the "Shadow Hill Woodlot." The Davises home and woodlot is accessed from 48 Shadow Hill Road in Sutton. The Davises owned the property from 1997 to 2011 in which time they managed the forest for wildlife and were a certified tree farm. The residence sits in the deed-restricted east corner of the 50-acre easement.  which is primarily forested and is a certified tree farm.Read more

Simpson Reserve

The Frank H. Simpson Reserve protects a vital Lake Sunapee tributary, ranked "number one" in the watershed. Red Water Creek lies west of Route 103B in Sunapee and flows into Lake Sunapee south of Fishers Bay. The Frank H. Simpson Reserve includes 44 acres of Red Water Creek wetland and more than 70 acres of upland buffer. The area is highly visible and is accessible to the public by the Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway, which has almost a mile of trail across this property.Read more

In August, 2015, Patricia Sorento of Sunapee donated the Sorento Conservation Easement to  Ausbon Sargent. This property is a beautiful, undeveloped mix of fields and forests with a stream that flows through the southeastern portion of the property providing a natural habitat for many woodland birds, animals, reptiles, amphibians and insects. The soils are highly ranked for forest production. There is a snowmobile trail that winds through the Sorento easement offering opportunities for low impact public recreation.Read more

Ralph and Mary Lou "Mickey" Spofford of New London granted Ausbon Sargent a conservation easement on their property northwest of Pleasant Lake. Comprised of approximately 21 acres, including forest, apple trees, and a beautiful, five-acre meadow, the land is a key link in the regional network of hiking trails and provides permanent public access. This property provides significant wildlife habitat as it is part of a much larger landscape of conserved lands covering several thousand acres, including the Webb easements and the Langenau Forest.Read more

Spring Ledge Farm

Spring Ledge Farm is protected by a conservation easement held by the Town of New London, which was assisted in part by the Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust. Both original owners of the farm, John and Sue Clough, were founding board members of the land trust. Current owner, Greg Berger, has also served on the Ausbon Sargent board. This property, which has frontage on the Class VI section of Dunbar Hill Road, will allow for safe access to those wishing to explore the Sawyer Brook Property. The Stamper Property is mostly forested, and has several significant vernal pools, which provide breeding grounds for many amphibians.Read more

Stanley Farm Association, Inc.

The Stanley Farm Association, Inc. has conserved 64.50 acres of land with Ausbon Sargent along Burpee Hill Road and Newport Road in New London. In November of 1989, the Stanley Farm Association donated a conservation easement on 31.47 acres and then in January 2009, they granted a conservation easement on the remaining 33.03 acres. The property has been owned by the Stanley Family since 1863.Read more

Stanley Point Trust/Stanley Farm Association, Inc.

In 2002, the Stanley Point Trust granted a conservation easement on two parcels of land in New London. One lot includes 8.6 acres with 520 feet of frontage along Newport Road and 2,260 feet of shore frontage on Little Lake Sunapee. The other lot of 2.56 acres is across the street with 707 feet of frontage along Newport Road. Both parcels are forested and contiguous to other Ausbon Sargent easement properties. This easement is key in continuing the protection of the Little Lake Sunapee shoreline and watershed, preserving both its beauty and its water quality.Read more

Star Lake Properties, Inc.

Star Lake Farm is a collection of over 1,700 acres made up of 14 former farms. In March of 2010, 1,559 acres were placed under conservation easement. Wholly within the Star Lake Farm conservation easement is the 65-acre Star Lake, habitat for nesting common loons, and the 10-acre McAlvin Pond. On the southwest boundary are 1,200 feet of frontage on Baptist Pond, which abuts more conservation easement properties. Water from the property flows to either Baptist Pond or Otter Pond then on to Lake Sunapee, protecting the headwaters of the Lake Sunapee Watershed.Read more

Our first easement in Danbury was donated by Linford and Mary Ellin Stiles in December of 2002. Located at the foot of Ragged Mountain, on Wiggin Road, the land features an historic 200-year old home and spectacular views of Ragged Mountain and Danbury Bog. 27 acres of the easement, on the south side of Wiggin Road, is open field bounded by stonewalls and sugar maples. The Stiles kept cows, llamas and goats in their days on the property. Approximately 55 acres of forests and fields are located on the north side of Wiggin Road and includes the historic home. Read more

Stockwell/McAllister

The Stockwell family has vacationed on Otter Pond since 1955. In 2006 Bill & Betty Stockwell decided to rebuild their cottage on Cove Point at the northern end of the pond. It was at this time that they realized the land across the cove on Springfield Road was for sale – with flagging for four building lots. When the development sale didn’t go through, the Stockwells decided to become part of conservation efforts on Otter Pond and in the Lake Sunapee watershed.Read more
