In 1999, Dr. John and Amy Blitzer donated a conservation easement on their 136-acre tree farm, insuring that it would remain a working forest forever. "We really love that piece of land," Amy Blitzer said. "We wanted to protect it."
Since 1990 the Blitzers have been managing the property as a tree farm, a portion of which was dedicated to Christmas trees. The parcel has 1,550 of frontage on Rowe Mountain Road and is accessible to the public. The Blitzers built a trail network which now connects to the Knights Hill Trail and the Lowe State Forest. "We hope to leave wild land for recreation and wildlife," Amy Blitzer said.
The New England Forestry Foundation holds an executory interest in this conservation easement.
John Blitzer died June 3, 2004 and Amy passed away on October 29, 2016. The property continues to be owned by the Blitzer family.
