Ausbon Sargent Welcomes New Executive Director

Ausbon Sargent Welcomes New Executive Director

The Ausbon Sargent Board of Trustees is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Hans Carlson as our new Executive Director. Hans joins us from Castine, Maine, where he has served as the Executive Director of the Blue Hill Heritage Trust for the past eight years. During his tenure, Hans successfully led numerous conservation projects, significantly increased the organization's fundraising efforts, and established strong partnerships with local communities and environmental organizations. His extensive experience in stewardship, program and organizational management, project fundraising, policy, regulation, and environmental science brings a wealth of knowledge to our team.

Hans holds a PhD in Environmental and Native History from the University of Maine, as well as a BA and MA in History and Philosophy from the University of Vermont. Reflecting on the importance of land conservation, Hans has said, “The best way of conserving and protecting land and resources is to tie them to community because caring and support are the only way that protection will last. I would argue that the best way to benefit any community is to tie it to the land and water around it. No community ever lasted long without a healthy relationship with its land…”

Dr. Carlson will begin his role at Ausbon Sargent on November 1. He is very excited to join our extraordinary staff and looks forward to meeting our members, donors, and volunteers in the coming weeks.
