An 88.40-acre land project in Newbury has just been finalized by the Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust. In 2020, the land trust purchase the "Between the Mountains" property (the 13th property owned by Ausbon Sargent), with assistance from many private donors and an ARM grant. Since then, Ausbon Sargent has worked with the Town of Newbury to put a conservation easement on the property; a requirement for receiving the ARM grant funding. On February 11, 2022, the deed for the property, including the conservation easement, was recorded, marking the project complete.
This property adds to an existing wildlife corridor and protects the area watershed. It is open to the public for low impact pedestrian access, although there are no formal hiking trails. Uses permitted are hiking, photography, snowshoeing, and hunting and fishing where appropriate on this property.
To preserve the rural landscape of the
Mt. Kearsarge/Ragged/Lake Sunapee region.
