Messer Farm Expansion Project is Underway!

Messer Farm Expansion Project is Underway!

These 9.4 acres were recently subdivided from a larger parcel, and so at the time of the Messer Farm project, were not on the land trust's radar. With the market being as it is, and the frontage afforded to this property along Morgan Hill Road, it was obvious that we had to act quickly to secure this valuable piece of land.  A purchase and sales agreement has been signed, and should the appraisal confirm the asking price, Ausbon Sargent plans to purchase these additional acres. The land trust has the first $100,000 to put towards this $395,000 project. Here are a few of the reasons we feel this property is so important:

  • Includes a 1.5 acre log landing suitable for trailhead parking. Otherwise, people wishing to access the trails would need to park along Little Sunapee Road and cross the leased farmland.
  • Direct access to woodlands for recreation and forest management throughout the Messer Farm property.
  • Access to future farmland (highly-ranked agricultural soils) which lies within the Messer Farm property, presently unaccessible.
  • Provides the ability to create an even longer trail system between Morgan Hill Road and Pleasant Street. An imminent donation of 28 acres on the opposite side of the Messer Farm property is slated for completion this winter.
  • Has scenic views of Ragged Mountain and Mount Kearsarge, protects wetlands, White Brook headwaters, and additional wildlife habitat.
  • See our fundraising flyer with more information and maps!

A closing date of April 15, 2021 has been set. We hope that you see the numerous benefits that owning this property would provide. Please help us reach our goal of $295,000 by our deadline!
