Property Monitors

Ausbon Sargent relies on help from many volunteer monitors to walk the perimeter of our properties on a yearly basis. A one-day training is provided to to teach you how to use a map and compass or to use your smartphone to navigate the boundary of a property. Monitors are paired up and assigned a property to monitor in the fall/early winter. This is a great way to help the land trust meet its requirement to visit properties each year and to report back with any changes observed on the property.
Event Helpers

Ausbon Sargent holds several events, workshops, hikes, and tours each year. Sometimes we need assistance from volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up, parking, bartending, and everything in between! Other times, we need bakers to provide something for post-hike sweets, or to help register people at an event. If you enjoy helping with all things event-related, let us know!
Office Volunteers

Throughout the year, Ausbon Sargent has a need for envelope “stuffers” for various mailings and fundraising projects. Generally, these fundraising opportunities last just a couple of hours and take place at the Ausbon Sargent office in New London during regular office hours. This is a nice way to meet others in the area while helping complete an important task that would take days for the staff to complete alone!
From time to time, we also may have a data entry, filing or other random project that we could use help with during regular office hours. If you have good attention to detail and some experience using a database, please let us know!
Trail Work Helpers

With over 14,000 acres of protected land under our care, Ausbon Sargent sometimes needs help with special trail projects. This can include pulling/cutting back invasive plants, removing debris from a property, sign placement, and trail upgrades/cleaning. If you like to be outside, aren’t afraid to get dirty, and have a knowledge of using basic tools used in trail work, we would love to have your help! These projects are generally done as a group in the spring/summer/fall and on an “as needed” basis.
