Wayne and Trudy Beaver Saga Pond Forest

Pumpkin Hill Road, Warner

On October 16, 2020 Trudy Daniels donated the ownership of her 146-acres of land on Pumpkin Hill Road to Ausbon Sargent. The Land Trust will manage the property.

This property is highly ranked for wildlife habitat in the 2020 Wildlife Action Plan, and will be forever conserved for wildlife. It includes an extensive beaver pond wetland and approximately 1,200 feet along Frazier Brook. The property is near other conserved land in the towns of Warner, Salisbury and Webster, helping to create a wildlife corridor in that portion of our region.

Trudy Daniels shared “For 28 years I have been observing three dynasties of beavers on the pond. I want to make sure that they, the beautiful old forest with its rich wildlife and wood plants – in other words fauna and flora – be preserved for future generations and hope that they will enjoy and treasure it for years to come.” The property supports this established beaver pond and wetlands, which are also frequented by fish, ducks, otters, moose, bear, bobcats, blue herron, and more.

The property is forested with a mix of hemlock, white pine, and hardwoods and will have minimal management to allow for the natural succession of the forest. Protection of this property will aid in the protection of the water quality of Frazier Brook.

The property is open for low-impact pedestrian access and parking is available along the road between spring and fall. There is a small path from Pumpkin Hill Road to the beaver pond. The Kearsarge Trail Snails snowmobile club helps to maintain the snowmobile trail crossing the northern portion of the property.
