Ausbon Sargent Goes Solar

Press Release

March 17, 2026 – Thanks to generous benefactors, Jamie and Lisa Hess, Ausbon Sargent has completed the installation of 42 solar panels on a rooftop array which will power their offices and hopefully create an excess of power to sell back to the grid. The Granite State Solar Company completed the installation in just two days in late January and early February. After inspections were completed in late February, Eversource installed a new meter, and power officially began generating on March 10th with a small ceremony, celebrating the achievement.

Ausbon Sargent’s Executive Director, Hans Carlson shared “Solar power produced here at the Ausbon Sargent offices aligns our basic organizational infrastructure with our values and mission, and we are very grateful to Jamie and Lisa Hess for making this possible. Land conservation is Ausbon Sargent’s specific daily work, but this is part of something larger. There are many others working toward environmental and community sustainability, and this is a very tangible way to partner with those other organizations and individuals toward the greater good.”

Jamie and Lisa Hess, as members of the New London Energy Committee, have spent the past decade researching and implementing energy efficiency and renewables. “The expertise we gained from overseeing the installation of New London’s three municipal solar arrays made it easy to apply that knowledge to help Ausbon Sargent,” they said. “And we were happy to do that.”

The Energy Committee’s primary mission is to save energy, save money, and reduce carbon emissions for New London’s municipal facilities. For Jamie and Lisa, a subset of this mission includes helping local businesses, institutions and residents do the same for themselves. “We hope this is the start of a long string of solar successes for our community,” the couple added.

Ausbon Sargent is enormously thankful for the generosity bestowed upon them to make the future plan of a solar-powered building a reality in the span of just a few months.
